1)Internal medicine:
The Department of Internal Medicine consists of the following nine divisions, most of which are further subdivided: (Ed- note that 'include' indicates a partial list, whilst the following is a complete list. In several cases in this article below I have also had to delete the usage of 'include') Allergy and Clinical Immunology, Cardiology, Endocrinology and Metabolism, Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Hematology and Medical Oncology, Infectious Disease, Nephrology, Pulmonology and Rheumatology. We have excellent research and clinical programs to complement the Internal Medicine. We also boast world-class clinical and basic science programs. The Department of Internal Medicine offers a wide range of high-quality services to patients and also provides comprehensive medical services using state-of-the-art diagnostic techniques and treatment protocols. The staff and faculty in the department are dedicated to not only enhancing care, teaching and research, but also to taking a leading role in the integrated health care system.

In line with our mission, third-year students of KSMC are required to take an internal medicine clerkship where they serve as subinterns in inpatient clinics for three months. During this period, students improve their skills in differential diagnosis and increase their exposure to medical problems. The students are active members of the ward team and concentrate on history taking and physical exam skills, as well as learning case assessments and management plans. We firmly believe that well-educated young students will be able to effectively manage a large proportion of problems they face when dealing with patients.

Research projects emphasize how to improve the quality of care and life. Our broad range of investigations range from the molecular pathogenesis of diverse diseases, through the search for the best treatment for patients, to pioneering ways of preventing various diseases. As indicated in the following table, we are fortunate to work with a remarkably talented faculty that encompasses a diverse range of interests.
